They have lots of fish and pickles
and wagashi (Japanese sweets).

Poetry Parade













Today we went to a festival of poetry that was held thousands of years ago. They floated a cup full of sake down a stream in a wooden duck. They stopped the duck at each poet and the poets each take a sip. Then someone chants the poem to the shrine maiden and it starts again.

Jizo Temple







This is a small Jizo (protector of children and travelers) temple. Buddhists carve faces onto rocks and tie colored bibs to them. These are Jizos. They also burn incense.
